Genome project for Dickeya dadantii (Erwinia chrysanthemi) 3937

Soft-rot associated enterobacteria cause devastating disease on a wide range of plant host species including agriculturally important crops and ornamentals.  Recent taxonomic revisions have altered the name of this organism over the course of the genome project, but Dickeya dadantii (a.k.a. Erwinia chrysanthemi, Pectobacterium chrysanthemi) 3937 remains an important model system for studying the molecular basis and regulation of soft-rot pathogenesis.  Most of the genome sequencing took place at The Institute for Genomic Reasearch (TIGR) with final gap closure and finishing at the University of Wisconsin.  An international network of collaborators worked with GEL personnel to annotate and analyze this genome sequence, which is publicly available through the ASAP database and will soon be deposited in Genbank.  A publication detailing the key findings from this project is in the works.  Many interesting results have already been presented at one of three international workshops held by this research community, including one held in Madison, Wisconsin in July 2004.  For more information contact This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it .
